- About The Weathering Observatory
At The Weathering Observatory (“Weathering”) our mission is to ensure that all British communities have access to the information and tools they need to make decisions for a more climate resilient future.
Climate change is already affecting communities across the UK. Shifts in our climate have led to increased wildfires, dangerous heat, flooding and coastal erosion. Communities and organisations are making decisions every day that impact their ability and capacity to be reslient to those changes. But often those decisions do not sufficiently take account of these future threats, leaving people and places at a higher risk of suffering.
Weathering aims to empower communities with the information they need to make good decisions about a climate changed world.
Our Values
Communities at the heart: Climate change is global, but its impacts are felt at the street level. We believe data is only powerful when it is place-based and relevant to the people who live there.
Scientific Rigour with Empathy: Our research is always evidence-led. However, we never forget that behind every data point is a household, a local shop, or a community space.
Clarity over Complexity: Data should be a bridge, not a barrier. We strive to make our research accessible, understandable, and actionable for everyone.
Holding people and power to account with integrity: We maintain a watchful eye on local resilience. Our independence is our greatest asset, ensuring we provide an honest account of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Collaborative Resilience: Climate change will affect communities and people across the UK. It’s essential that we work together, across differences, to survive and thrive. Weathering aims to work alongside all communities and to help bridge those differences.
